Designing a Path Worth Walking

The path between Grafito's workshop and the town is more than a connection. It's the first step in creating a relaxing journey where exploration feels natural.

More than a shortcut

One of the areas I've been working on recently is the main path that connects Grafito's workshop to the town. At first, it was simply a straight corridor between two places.

It worked.

But it wasn't interesting.

A journey instead of a transition

Rather than creating the shortest possible route, I wanted this path to feel like part of the experience.

  • Small curves
  • Clusters of trees
  • Openings in the vegetation
  • Benches
  • Lighting

Little moments that encourage the player to slow down instead of rushing to the next objective. The goal isn't to delay progress. It's to make the journey enjoyable.

Guiding without arrows

Another design goal for this area is reducing the need for intrusive UI. Instead of relying on objective markers, I want the environment itself to naturally guide the player.

  • The shape of the path
  • The vegetation
  • The lighting
  • The landmarks waiting in the distance

All of these elements should help players understand where to go while still feeling free to explore.

Still evolving

Everything shown here is still part of the graybox prototype. The art is temporary, but the layout is becoming more intentional with every iteration.

This path will eventually become the player's daily walk between home and the community. Making that journey enjoyable feels just as important as designing the destination.

One step closer to restoring harmony
